Developed as part of an ongoing inquiry into material permanence and sculptural form, the piece reflects a shift in approach, moving away from my previous focus on utilitarian wood-turned objects toward a more open-ended exploration of form and symbolism.
This work emerges from a process-driven engagement with woodturning, a technique I have primarily used to create functional objects. In contrast, Relic was made without an intended purpose, instead allowing the form to develop intuitively through the act of making. The absence of function intends to invite reflection on how objects acquire meaning, whether through their materiality, cultural associations, or their relationship to architectural and sculptural traditions
