Architectural Air-Purifying Cladding Panel: A High-Performance Bio reactive Façade System

Abstract

This research presents an advanced architectural cladding system integrating bioreactor technology to actively purify urban air while maintaining optimal thermal performance. The system employs modular photobioreactor cassettes embedded within a high-strength, lightweight aluminium honeycomb core, structurally optimized for load distribution and solar permeability. Utilizing microalgae-based CO₂ sequestration, coupled with photocatalytic coatings for volatile organic compound (VOC) breakdown, the panel system demonstrates a multi-functional façade solution for urban environments. This paper details the material composition, mechanical performance, environmental impact, and engineering integration of the panel within contemporary and adaptive-reuse architectural frameworks
