2018-2020 Core project of MA in Design

Specialising in Environmental & Industrial Design

Image below:

A compostable bicycle frame made from fungal infected ash wood, egg tempera (egg whites applied as a glue from local chickens). Surrounded by initial testing, using egg tempera recycled paper, oats, card & flour; compressed inside metal tubes and dried out over 3-5 weeks.

  • Researching the long term effects of bicycle production, the misconception of ‘the green choice’, and the impact that bicycles have in scrap yards. Working with what can & can’t be repurposed.

  • Based on a large body of research, I concluded that you can produce a compostable bicycle frame with these methods. Though it would need further experimentation and development to become a practical object.
